How Invisalign Works & Orthodontic Issues It Addresses

How Invisalign Works

First, the dentist will examine your oral health and teeth position to make sure that you are a good candidate for Invisalign. If everything is in order, they will take a digital scan or an impression of your teeth to create a 3D model of your mouth. This model is used to design a series of custom-made aligners that will slowly move the teeth into their proper position.

But, for that to happen, you must wear your aligners for about 22 hours a day. Moreover, you will have to see your dentist about every two weeks or so to get a new set of aligners.

As the treatment progresses, your teeth will be moved into the desired position, giving you the straight smile you always wanted.

How Does Invisalign Target Specific Teeth?

Each set of Invisalign aligners is designed to target specific teeth and move them into their correct position. The aligners are made from a flexible plastic material that allows for controlled movement of the teeth. The aligners fit snugly over the teeth and use gentle pressure to move them into their new position.

But, that's not all.

The 3D modeling technology used by Invisalign allows for precise planning and targeting of specific teeth. The aligners are designed to apply a calculated amount of pressure to each tooth at the right time, ensuring that the teeth move into their desired position as efficiently and effectively as possible.

What Conditions Does Invisalign Treat?

The downside of Invisalign is that it can only be used for mild to moderate orthodontic issues. Even so, it can still tackle a variety of conditions, such as:

  • Crooked Teeth: Invisalign can straighten crooked teeth, helping you get a more even and aligned smile.
  • Overbite: An overbite means that the upper teeth overlap the lower teeth. Invisalign can be used to correct this problem by gently pushing the upper teeth back into their proper position.
  • Underbite: An underbite occurs when the lower teeth protrude beyond the upper teeth. Invisalign will gradually move the lower teeth back into their proper position.
  • Crossbite: A crossbite occurs when the upper and lower teeth do not meet properly. Invisalign can be used to correct this condition too granted it's a mild one.
  • Gaps between Teeth: Invisalign can close gaps between teeth, creating a more even and aligned smile.
